LEGACY SPORTS CO-ED VOLLEYBALL came out of the gate in 2014 with a bang, instantaneously emerging as an “extremely popular” addition to the LEGACY SPORTS family and increasing in popularity every season. Co-ed volleyball offers a great way to get exercise in a healthy environment while engaging in a sport that is easy to learn but challenging to master. You may choose to play mainly to socialize with friends, family, or co-workers. You also may choose to sign up as a “free agent” and be placed on a team. Whichever the case, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a great sport and the camaraderie of teamwork, meet new people, make connections, strengthen friendships or build new friendships and in the process learn to enjoy and experience one of the greatest co-ed sports to
its fullest extent! Level of play ranges from never played before, to pretty good, to experienced and very good. EVERYONE fits in. Matches are played at Kingsway Christian Schools on Sunday afternoons and the age of eligibility is high school freshman and older. Match winners are determined by the winner of the best of 5 sets and are played with licensed volleyball referees officiating the matches. One player ticket entitles you to 8 Sundays of 5 sets each, a team jersey, and eligibility for the end-of-season team and individual awards. Matches will be played on October 6, October 13, October 20, October 27, November 3, November 10, November 17, December 1, and possibly December 8. It’s time to “Just Play!”.

Co-ed Volleyball Rules
“Consider first honesty, sportsmanship, and fair play. Value integrity, participation, and connections above winning”.
GUIDELINES GOVERNING PARTICIPATION
[A] TEAMS: Before a team can participate, they must have completed the online registration and the fees have been processed.
[B] ELIGIBILITY: Players are not eligible to participate in any games until they have registered either online or by hard copy at an event venue, and the registration has been processed and approved by LEGACY Sports administration personnel. Players under 18 years of age require a signature from parent or guardian to be eligible to be on a roster. Players must be at least 9th grade or a minimum 14 years of age to be eligible to play.
[C] VERBAL ABUSE: will not be permitted, whether against umpires, coaches, teammates, opponents, fans, or league personnel. ROSTERS, LINE-UPS, SUBSTITUTIONS/PICK UP PLAYERS
[Rule 1] A roster may have Gender Imbalance (if they have more female players than male). If a roster is gender imbalanced, before each game the coach must designate which players will be the Alternate Replacements for Male Players so that there is a balance of genders for that game. The Alternate Replacements will be treated as male players for that game. This may not change during a game (except as necessary due to injury) but may vary from game to game. Players who arrive late are eligible to play as soon as they arrive and may enter the game as the rotation allows.
[Rule 2] Players may play on one team and play as a substitute/fill-in on other teams, however, no one can play on more than one team until they have legally registered on one team in the league. A team who has enough players to play with a full lineup of 6 players may only pick up one player as a rotation substitution for each gender. If a team is short on the number of necessary players of either gender, they may pick up the number of the deficit to be legal, plus 1 more of each gender as substitutes.
PLAYING THE GAME
[Rule 3] At the moment the ball is hit by the server, each team must be positioned within its own court in the following rotational order (except the server); back right is position-1, front right position-2, front middle position-3, front left position-4, back left position-5, back middle position-6. A positional fault is assessed when a player is not in his/her correct position at the moment the ball is hit by the server, resulting in a point and service to the opponent (positions must be rectified).
[Rule 4] No player is permitted to make contact with the ball higher than the top of the net on an opponent’s service.
[Rule 5] Serve may be returned by any legal hit; no attacking a serve from the front row.
[Rule 6] There is a maximum of three hits per side; a block does not count as a hit.
[Rule 7] Player may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not considered a hit).
[Rule 8] The ball may be played off the net during a volley and on the serve.
[Rule 9] No player is permitted to make contact with the ball higher than the top of the net on an opponent’s service.
[Rule 10] Contact with the net (by any part of the body) is only a fault if contact is made during the action of playing the ball or if it interferes with play.
[Rule 11] A ball that touches any part of a boundary line is considered “in”.
[Rule 12] Teams are permitted only one 30-second time out per game.
[Rule 13] Only front row players can contact the ball higher than the top of the net. The backcourt players can only contact a ball above the top of the net if they jump from the attack line, which separates the front and back part of the court. Backcourt players may hit the ball over the net from the front row if it is below the top of the net.
[Rule 14] A legal hit is contact with the ball by a player’s body above and including the waist, which does not allow the ball to visibly come to a rest. Hitting the ball illegally (carrying, palming, lifting, throwing, etc.) is a violation.
[Rule 15] If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one play and neither player involved may participate in the next contact, but if another contact is available either player can be involved.
[Rule 16] Everyone must be within the lines on the court during the serve.
[Rule 17] A player’s foot can be on the centerline but cannot cross all the way over, unless it is a matter of the other team’s safety. No part of a player’s body may initiate contact with the net. A player cannot reach under the net if it interferes with the ball or the opposing player.
[Rule 18] Switching positions will be allowed only between front line players, and only after the serve.
[Rule 19] It is illegal for the ball to cross over the net outside the crossing space. The ball must cross over the net, between the antennas and their imaginary extension, and without contacting the ceiling or anything hanging down from the ceiling.
[Rule 20] Rally scoring will be used. (A point will be scored every time a team wins a rally.)
[Rule 21] Games 1– 4 will be played to 21 points (must win by 2 points). In any game (1-5), you must win by 2 points, with the following exception — the first team to 25 points will be considered the winner of that game.
[Rule 22] In case of a forfeited game the score will be 21-0; a forfeited match will be 3 games, each with 21-0 scores.
[Rule 23] Winner of the match will be the team that wins 3 or more games.
[Rule 24] Server must serve from behind the end line, or service line.
[Rule 25] The server may not serve until the referee has blown the whistle.
[Rule 26] Ball must be served underhand and must be clearly visible to opponents before being served.
[Rule 27] Served ball may make contact with the net and drop to the other side for point.
[Rule 28] First game serve will belong to the home team; each subsequent game the serve belongs to the loser of the previous game.
[Rule 29] A serve that hits the ceiling is considered out.
[Rule 30] Team shall rotate in a clockwise manner each time they win the serve.
[Rule 31] There shall be a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 6 players on each side.
[Rule 32] Player rotations consist of entering a player of the same gender as the player exiting. Alternate Replacements will rotate in and out as a male player. Players will rotate off the court from the front right corner of the court (position 2) and rotate in to the server’s position (position 1).
[Rule 33] UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT: If your team engages in unsportsmanlike conduct during a game, you will receive (1st offense) a penalty that can result in a change of possession; (2nd offense) a point for the opposing team; (3rd offense) or your ejection from the game. If you make distracting noises or gestures toward the other team during the game, you will receive a penalty. If you are ejected from a game, you will be suspended for the following game. note: if it is the last game of the day you will be suspended for game 1 of the following week’s match.
[Rule 34] DISQUALIFICATION PENALTIES: If you receive a disqualification penalty during a game, you either will be removed from the volleyball league, or your team will forfeit the game. Any act of physical aggression toward a referee, spectator or opponent will result in immediate disqualification. In addition, a disqualification can occur when several players from the same team are ejected.
REGULATIONS & RESTRICTIONS
[Rule 35] All players must wear the team uniform shirt – it cannot be altered in any way and must be the top layer of any clothing worn that day. Players may wear pants or shorts at their discretion, as long as the shorts are modest in length (not extremely short) and demonstrate decorum.
[Rule 36] Uniforms MUST be worn properly; absolutely NO permanent altering of the uniform shirt – including but not limited to shortening the bottom of shirts, cutting of sleeves and/or necklines, etc.
[Rule 37] Long sleeves or sweatshirts may be worn UNDER the uniform shirt. Make sure to order your shirt large enough to wear another shirt underneath if you desire to do so. The rules prohibit any layer of clothing to be worn over the team shirts and/or team shirts to be altered.
[Rule 38] Any player without a team uniform shirt because they do not have one yet will be required to wear the most appropriate alternative available. If a player has lost or damaged their shirt they will be required to purchase a new one. If they have forgotten or misplaced their shirt they will not be penalized the first time. The second time they come to play without their shirt we must assume they have lost it and they will need to order a new shirt.
[Rule 39] Prior to a team’s first match of the day, there will be a short devotional and prayer that will take place approximately 5 minutes prior to match time.
